Biography
Catherine Tseng was born in Taiwan, and entered Music Program for Gifted Children in Taiwan. She immigrated to Canada with her parents, then studied piano with renowned Donna Fishwick and Lee Kum-Sing. She studied piano at Vancouver Academy of Music for six years, later studied at UBC School of Music focused on Piano Performance.
In 1994, won the first prize of Canadian Music Competition, and released cd recording.
1997-1999 For three consecutive years represented Canada to participate in “Music Bridge” program which invited young outstanding musicians from China.
In 1998 won the Grand Prize for Pacific National Exhibition Youth Talent Search, and represented B.C. to compete at National Talent Competition and was a prize winner.
In 1999, performed piano concerto with Vancouver Academy Symphony Orchestra at Orpheum Theatre.
Since 2000, participated in many musical activities in Vancouver, performed with North Arts Performing Management. Attending Capilano College Music Program and studied piano with Mr. David Mccoy, then went on to UBC to study with pianist Dr. Sara Davis Buechner, and graduated from UBC School of Music.
In 2010, through jury panel was selected to perform piano solo at 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In August was invited to perform solo concert for renowned USI enterprise at Shen Zhen Grand Theatre, China.
In April 2011, performed piano concerto “Brimming River in Spring” with B.C. Chinese Orchestra. In August was invited by Shen Zhen government to perform solo concert at Shen Zhen Concert Hall. In September performed with North Arts Performing Management in numerous provinces in China in Hunan Country Music Festival, and appeared in Hunan TV. In November was invited to perform for the 100 Anniversary of Xin-Hai Revolution hosted by Consulate General of P.R. China with solo and chamber performances.
In June 2012, was invited by Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Association to host a lecture- performance of the works of Taiwanese composer Chiang Wen-Yeh, and in November performed piano solo in concert “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. In December , performed piano solo concert at Garden Village Church.
In January and October 2013, performed with the North Arts Performing Management at Chan Centre which featured Western and Chinese Music. In May, performed solo at Vancouver Play House featured the Vancouver premier of Taiwanese Composer Chen Su-Ti with the work “Dragon Dance”. In September, performed in concert with American violinist Yo-Yo Fann at Burnaby Shadbolt Centre of the Performing Arts.
In six consecutive years 2012-2017,is the pianist for ballet’s Solo Seal Award.
